Project 1 - Case Study and Documentation of Building Services System
This project enabled us to identify the basic principles, process and equipment of various building services systems through real life projects. It exposes us to the integration of various building services systems in a building. A demonstration of our understanding of these systems can be developed through the drawing conventions and standards for different building services systems.
Through the completion of theis project we would be able to identify and understand the relevant information related to water and electrical supply, sewerage, mechanical ventilation and sir-conditioning as well as fire protection systems. Through some indeopth research, we would also be able to understand how each building services functions including the connections and positions of different parts of equipement. All these principles and systems as well as the space implcations and regulations based on the UBBL related to the different building services would also be clearly explained.
In a group of 6 members, we were required to choose a building of at least 4-storey high which can be either public or commercial buildings (i.e. office blocks, institutional buildings, shopping malls, etc.). Each group is to perform a thorough study and analysis of the following services systems associated to the building:
i. water supply system
ii. electrical supply system
iii. sewerage, sanitary & drainage system
iv. mechanical transportation system
v. mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning system
vi. fire protection system
Each group will need to document their findings accordingly. It is entirely up to the group members on how they want to delegate the tasks to each of their members. The purpose of this assignment is to give a clearer picture of what the students will and have learnt in the classroom and to evaluate their understanding on the systems that they have observed.
The requirements of the project are as follows:
1. Identify all the required building services components installed in the building
2. Perform a thorough study on all the services systems
i. Water Supply System
ii. Sewerage, Sanitary & Drainage System
iii. Mechanical Transportation System
iv. Mechanical Ventilation and Air-Conditioning System
v. Fire Protection System
3. Obtain estimated dimensions and sizes of the spaces required for all the equipment and plant rooms identified
4. Provide brief explanation on how the building services components function. This explanation shall be in qualitative form and therefore no calculation is required.
5. Summarize the systems in diagrammatic form.

Final Report
Project 2 - Application of Building Services
This project requires me to relate my Studio Design Project in Semester 2 which relates to a domestic size building (i.e. a retreat house. etc.) We were expected to demonstrate our understanding of buildign services by proposing and designing the most appropriate system s for the building which includes;
i. Electrical Supply System (including split unit air-conditioner)
ii. Cold Water and Hot Water Supply System
iii. Sewerage and Sanitary System
iv. Drainage System
Appropriate drawings and diagrams which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, text, etc. are required to describe the planning and the installation of all the building services. In addition to that, we may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law(UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relates to the proposed systems.

As a conclusion. I've learnt theimportance of team work throughout this entire project. Without one another, this project wouldn't be as successful as it turned out to be. Having soft skill during interviews and site visitss, definetly gave us the upper hand in completion of this project. Besides that, time management as well as the job allocation was clearly as important as working as a team. I've also learnt the importance of these major systems in a specific building.
